What the service does

Office of the Public Guardian Tasmania helps protect the rights and wellbeing of adults who have difficulty making decisions because of disability, illness, injury or other conditions. The service provides information, guardianship (legal decision-making support), investigations and help to resolve disagreements. It can help with advance care directives (legal plans for future health care), enduring guardians (a person chosen to make decisions if someone cannot), powers of attorney (legal authority to make decisions for someone) and other decision-making arrangements. The Office of the Public Guardian may also be appointed to make personal, lifestyle or health decisions for a person when there is no suitable family member or friend available. Services are available across Tasmania.
