What the organisation does

Cancer Council ACT supports people affected by cancer in the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding regions and people receiving cancer treatment or specialist care in the ACT. This includes carers, family members and friends. Services include cancer information, emotional support, counselling, wellbeing programs and financial help. Some services are only for people who meet certain criteria.

Cancer Counselling Service

What the service does
The Cancer Counselling Service provides short-term counselling for people affected by cancer. The service is available to people living with cancer as well as their family members and carers. The counsellors can offer strategies to help people cope with the impact a cancer diagnosis can have on identity, relationships, family and emotions. This may include overwhelming feelings, anxiety or uncertainty. The service is for adults aged 18 years and over. People can access this service if they live in the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding regions or are receiving cancer treatment or specialist services in the ACT.

Cancer Carer Support Program

What the service does
The Cancer Carer Support Program supports carers in the Australian Capital Territory. It is for people aged 18 and over who provide unpaid care and support to someone with a cancer diagnosis. The program matches each carer with a Supportive Care Team member. The carer works one‑on‑one with this team member to create a shared support plan. This support plan helps carers organise their own care and support needs.

ENHANCE Wellbeing

What the service does
The ENHANCE Wellbeing Programs support people affected by cancer in the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding regions as well as those receiving cancer treatment or specialist services in the ACT. The program offers wellbeing and healthy lifestyle sessions that aim to improve overall health and wellbeing. It is for people who are affected by cancer and for their carers. Activities include mindfulness, board games, coffee catch-ups, walks, yoga and other activities. People need to register before attending a session.

Wig service

Cancer Council ACT

What the service does
The Wig Service provides headwear for people experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. Headwear includes wigs, turbans and beanies. People can receive up to 2 wigs. The first wig is free. A second wig can be purchased at a reduced cost. There is no limit on the number of turbans and beanies that can be purchased. People must book this service. Help is for people in the Australian Capital Territory.
