Overview

The uterus (womb) is where a baby grows during pregnancy. Cancer can develop if cells in the uterus grow out of control and form a lump (tumour). This may be called cancer of the uterus, uterine cancer, endometrial cancer, womb cancer, or cancer of the lining of the womb.

Endometrial cancer starts in the inner lining of the uterus. It is the most common type of uterine cancer. Sometimes, the cancer develops in the muscle or tissue (uterine sarcoma).
